aGöz Hastalıkları Kliniği, Türkiye HastanesibYeditepe Üniversitesi Göz Hastanesi, İSTANBUL Femtosecond lasers can create intrastromal incisions without any damage to the neighbouring tissues, by focusing infrared laser pulses (1053 nm) in the corneal tissue, in 10-15 seconds, with a spot size of 3 µm. By using this system, 3 dimensional intrastromal resection planes of any shape could be formed at any desired location in the cornea.
Currently femtosecond lasers are most commonly used for LASIK flap formation and intrastromal channel formation for intra-corneal ring implantation. Other clinical procedures, where femtosec-ond lasers can be used include, anterior and posterior lamellar keratoplasty, adjustment of the donor and host corneal edge shapes in penetrating keratoplasty, corneal pocket formation for intracorneal inlay implantations, keratoprosthesis procedures, astigmatic keratotomy and limbal transplantation. Keywords: Femtosecond laser, keratoplasty, keratotomy, cornea, intracorneal ring, lasikTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2007, 3(43):53-56
